Samsung X100 review from Pakistan
"Feature packed mobile, but with a few catches"
What things have gone wrong with the mobile phone?
Sometimes the handset halts while receiving calls. Have to reset it.
4-way navigation button lost its upward navigation.
Paint is chipping off fast from both from the body and the buttons.
Sometimes the phone book doesn't initialize.
General comments?
This X100 was one of those models launched by Samsung to compete with Nokia by designing handsets that were high on features, but low on prices. Samsung became the best seller with this strategy (which began in 2004) in 2005, but lost the position recently to Nokia.
The LCD is difficult to read under the sun. Also, not so vivid as of Nokia's, but still is good. The reception and voice quality is good. Ring tones are melodious, but don't serve the basic purpose of a ring tone by not being loud enough, therefore vibrator featured tones are what one is left with to choose from.
The charger was burnt while plugged for two (2) days. I bought a replacement charger (not made by Samsung nor recommended) but that only charges 10% of the total capacity of the battery so I have to reapply the charging ten (10) times to get it 100%. Even with 10%, the battery indicator shows 100% after every recharge. All mentioned percentages are estimates.
Three different alarms can be set, which is nice, but again the alarm tones are not loud enough, so I can't rely on its alarm when it's crucial.
I have accidently dropped this mobile about 2 to 3 times from a height of 3 feet or less, and nothing seems to have been damaged. No, the halting and 4-way button problems were there even before the falls.
This is a good handset only if the halting problem is not there. The shiny finish won't last long and the price difference is worth the little problems (except for the halting one). Samsung makes no exaggeration when selling its handsets, which is what I like most.
