Alcatel 311 review from New Zealand

"A surprisingly competent phone without the frills"

What things have gone wrong with the mobile phone?

Nothing has gone wrong with the phone itself.

Earlier this year, the battery refused to hold its charge. A replacement battery had the same problem, it was replaced free and the current battery is working well.

General comments?

The phone is easy to use, once you get used to it. It works differently than most modern phones. Instead of a central four way menu button and two soft keys, it has one button to answer and end calls, one central three function button to scroll up and down the menu, and OK, and one button to clear or exit the menu.

All the most used functions are simply one or a couple of button pushes away.

It has WAP, but downloads are slow so I rarely use it.

The screen is monochrome, amber backlit and quite readable.

Ringtones are monophonic, but quite resonant compared to the high pitched tones of earlier phones. There is a good variety and I prefer them to polyphonic tones, they grab my attention, which after all is the purpose of a ringtone.

Although the phone's length and width are similar to most phones, it is rather chubby, it fits nice in my hand, but not so easily in my pocket. That really is my main criticism of the phone.
