Nokia 3230 review from United Kingdom
"Good quality, versatile mobile phone with a lot of extras"
What things have gone wrong with the mobile phone?
Battery life has dropped considerably since I received the phone (bought second hand), although it may just be down to me charging it before it is completely flat.
General comments?
OK. It's a Nokia, so it's a pretty solid phone and the sound quality during phone calls is excellent (either through the earphone or loudspeaker)
It has a nice menu, which can either be arranged as a grid or in a list. I've tried both and have to say I prefer the grid layout.
The icons are nice and easy to see, and navigating the menu is also easy thanks to the joystick.
Standard ringtones are OK, but you can get your own very easily, and it also supports playing mp3's as ringtones or message alert tones.
I find the buttons OK to use, but some people say they're a bit too close together. Again, just down to personal preference.
Another nice feature is that you can add your own memory card. The phone comes with a 32mb card, which is sufficient for most people, but I wanted to add some other applications, so bought a 1Gb card. Just pop it in and away you go!
The phone uses the operating system called Symbian OS. It has all the usual default applications that you'd want (calculator, calendar, alarm, conversions etc), but it also enables you to add others. This could be games, applications to alter settings, finance tracking software, phone based answer phones, automatic SMS replies to name a few. You can even run TomTom Mobile 5 on this phone, and that works really well (not as easy to navigate menus as the real unit, but still good). The only extra you need is a bluetooth GPS receiver and that's it!
Phone has bluetooth and infrared. Not really used much, but handy to have.
Camera is quite good (1.2 megapixel), but there's a small delay between you pressing the button and it actually taking the picture, so if you press the button and then move the phone, you get a nice blurred picture. This is just the way that it works, and is a shame as it can produce some good clear pictures.
The screen is fairly large, and is nice and easy to read. I was fed up with the smaller screened T610, and even though the 3230 isn't small, I think it's just the right size.
