Sony Ericsson K750i review from Australia
"Excellent phone, shame about the joystick"
What things have gone wrong with the mobile phone?
Phone does have a tendency to crash occasionally, and not always when you're asking a lot from the firmware. Takes you to a white screen, and may require you to turn off the phone and restart.
Dust seal around the screen has failed, and I also have a layer of dust behind the screen. Not really an issue unless you're using the phone in the sunlight, in which case it’s rather impossible.
Greatest cause of frustration is without doubt the joystick. After about 8 months it started to become quite temperamental, now at 13 months it can be quite a nightmare, particularly when text messaging. It's not constantly difficult, some days it's not a problem (yet). It can, however, take a lot of self-control not to throw it at the wall on occasion...
My girlfriend has a K600i, with a joystick which I think may be constructed from a metal (not 100% sure) instead of the plastic in this phone. No issue with using the joystick on her phone at all.
General comments?
Love the camera. Go to parties, concerts and on holiday and often leave my digital camera at home. Sure, it's never going to make your digital camera redundant, but the camera phone has the advantage of always being in your pocket, and 2.0 mp won't disappoint those just after the odd shot.
I'm a fan of the media player. Updated memory stick to 512 meg - wouldn't want it to be any less though.
Also like the light on the phone. I know it’s a minor thing, but the twin LED’s on the phone are brilliant, and are highly beneficial when taking photos at night, or in a dark environment. Also good for negotiating your way to your bed after a couple of drinks!
I was always a Nokia user, and decided to give Sony Ericsson a shot. I wouldn’t be surprised if my next phone is a Sony Ericsson again.
Don’t be put off by this phone if you’re thinking of buying, despite the above complaints. Perhaps at the first sign of the joystick playing up, take it back to the dealer and get it looked at under warranty.
