Nokia 6230 review from United States of America
"Ahead of its time on features, but a step backward in ergonomics"
What things have gone wrong with the mobile phone?
The front buttons on this phone are poorly designed, and many are too small.
The center button is the worst, sometimes it pushes sometimes it doesn't, even with the 6230i keypad I got.
The battery life is okay for its size, but doesn't hold a candle to my old 6310i. If my 6310i had 800Mhz, I'd still be using it.
Stuff gets behind the faceplate on the screen.
Can't change the font color, which is dumb.
Nokia software is not good, bluetooth and infrared can't handle several mp3's.
Bluetooth reception could be better.
Phone reception could also be better. All my previous Nokias were better in this department.
Even with same carrier.
Speaker is a little on the quiet side, even at full volume.
Microphone is very sensitive, which is great for quiet rooms, but horrible for any place with background noise. Nokia needs to add noise cancellation to their microphones, people can hear everything going on sometimes.
No individual caller rings, only group rings are customizable.
FM radio only works with headphones. Okay, but you have to buy adapter or Nokia headphones. No headphone jack on phone.
I am not a heavy text messager, but I notice I make more errors with texts due to this phones small buttons on the side of the center buttons. The center buttons (2,5,8,0) are great.
General comments?
Music player works well, and loudspeaker is pretty loud.
Power button is much easier to use than previous Nokias.
Menus are very quick and much better than Motorolas.
My voice comes out clear to other callers, as long as there is no background noise.
Can use mp3's as ring tones.
Records voice.
FM radio with adapter.
Sound quality with headphones actually pretty good.
Still, phone is pretty easy to use, and comes with some okay ring tones.
Also, if faceplate gets scratched new ones aren't too expensive.
Holds lots. I have a 1GB card in with tons of music and pictures.
Just now other phones have come out that have similar features that are affordable.
This phone is a step down in some ways for Nokia, but very advanced on paper.
It's very small and I like this a lot. Not wide and fat and thick like many flip phones.
