Nokia 6340i review from United States of America
"Reception, reception, reception, back when this was the most important thing for a phone to have!"
What things have gone wrong with the mobile phone?
The power button came off. The button was already hard to use, but once it came off, it was a pain. I don't use it to turn the phone on/off. I use it for quick profile selection.
Slower menus, especially when opening text messages.
Not Nokias fault, but because of Cingular sometimes will default to unusable TDMA or analog. (unless emergency). This meant that nobody could reach me, and it would do it many times without me knowing. Really a Cingular problem though, they suck.
The screen is monochromatic and not as nice looking as the 6310i's blue screen. But not having a color screen helps with battery life.
Sometimes made a sound in the speaker, almost like you could actually hear the electromagnetic radiation coming out of it. Kind of annoying.
Phone is big by today's standards.
Doesn't use the older Nokia batteries that last longer.
No mp3, bluetooth, camera, etc., but that's okay.
General comments?
Big nice buttons, very easy to dial numbers and text message.
This phone's reception was above and beyond. Especially when TDMA and analog were still working through Cingular. This phone really does get a strong signal in many places, and I like that it gets TDMA and analog in case of an emergency out in the backcountry.
The reception is the biggest strength of this phone, and it probably does emit higher amounts of radiation, but I still keep this phone around in case I go on a trip, etc.
The battery life was definitely better than my 6230, but not as good as my 6310i.
Oh, and it has a rear antenna mount in case you want to boost your signal at home or in car with a cheap plug in antenna.
Quite a few ringtones, but no MP3 support.
Unfortunately, newer phones have different priorities, cosmetic, ringtones, mp3, camera, radio, etc., but they sound bad and don't get good reception. Motorola RZR for example. I hate it when people with these phones call me, it's horrid.
