Palm Treo 755P review from United States of America
"Great for busy, schedule filled schedulers"
What things have gone wrong with the mobile phone?
Phone seems to have a life of its own, shutting off mid sentence with no warning other than "dead air".
Battery life is minimal, especially in use.
The learning curve on this is huge, unless you've owned another Treo or Blackberry, in which case you may find this one a bit more navigable in quicker time with little effort. Otherwise, its tedious and you need a PHD to learn it. Once learned, though, you cannot live without the calendar and alarm functions, if you are a busy person (I am a foster parent and working Mom with endless Dr. appts, therapy, games, school, work, family visits, court, meetings with DCS and team workers). This alone makes it worth it.
It has saved me more than once to have the alarm sound (you can set it for minutes, hours or days before an event) in one tedious meeting and bow out with "I have another appointment at 2... gotta go!". The workers all want one to keep up with their endless schedules. I put it on the charger every time I hit the door, as I never know when I will get another opportunity to use it. I may eventually have to purchase the car charger (probably a must have for this phone, which eats its battery time pretty quick). With all that it does, it doesn't surprise me the battery life goes. Of course, being able to sit in a Dr's office and play BEJEWELLED helps me become hopelessly addicted to the stupid thing!
It's easy to save incoming numbers, but you have to act quickly, but you can retrieve numbers easily enough by going to the log. I hate that I have to hit a couple of screeens on it before getting to the dial menu or contact list. Not used to that YET! In fact, I hate that part, when I am in a hurry.
The bluetooth headset has a hard time latching onto the set, and staying on or off when needed, alternating whenever IT feels like it.
The book that comes with it is full of all its wonderful things to do. I find the Internet not up to what was touted, but LOVE LOVE LOVE those GOGGLE maps, but hate the lag getting there.
All in all, a functional phone with the scheduler; it's a must have for me! If you are not a professional though, I would look for something less expensive (I paid $300, even with my $150 discount from Sprint, it still hurt!). Just the same, when I look at the calendar to see what is on the books for stuff to do or fit in, WOW! I can mark birthdays from the contact list, at a glance know my schedule is heavy with Dr appointments, worker visits or whatever, because it allows me to assign a color code to these events, which I can customize... WOW!
General comments?
It was touted to me to be able to watch Internet TV, download music, games and so on. Sure if you want to pay pay pay some more, you can a lot of things. But it's pretty much pay as you go for everything. It come free with BEJEWELLED, but I have not been able to download other games, but can go on the WEB and play hangman at POGO. Sheesh.
Love the calendar, hate the endless screens for getting to make a call, gets old quick.
Love the ease of use, hate the lousy way it shuts off when it feels like it, no rhyme or reason that I can figure, and more than once I have thought "THAT'S IT, I'M TAKING IT BACK!" but so far, haven't had 2 minutes to do THAT!
Love the alarms, and the bells and whistles will keep you learning for some time to come.
Would I do it again? For the calendar yes, for the rest... mmmmmmmm... maybe... maybe not... would check the competition before locking into more contract time with it.
