Motorola V600 review from United Kingdom
"Good, strong phone, spoiled by a major design flaw"
What things have gone wrong with the mobile phone?
The screen has become scratched, despite being a clamshell design. I guess my keys must have squeezed in between the screen and keys somehow.
Other than that, it's been 4 painless years of ownership.
General comments?
Above all else: WHY does Motorola insist on having side buttons that change between silent/quiet/loud/vibrate on the side of the phone!?
WHY!!!
The buttons constantly get pressed whilst the phone is jostled around in my pocket. This naturally results in the phone getting set to silent or vibrate (which I generally don't notice) when an important call comes through or the phone gets set to loud just as I enter an important meeting etc...
PLEASE Motorola, if you want to put buttons there, then let me switch them off without locking the entire phone up...
OK, that over with I am generally happy with the phone. It's a bit thick and heavy compared to the latest phones, but it does the job well enough and has proved reliable.
The screen is fine and the interface very easy to use. The predictive text is intuitive and genuinely useful.
However, I still come back to the bit about the side buttons. One of the reasons I favour clam shells is because I'm fed up of dialling 999 or 112 on so-called locked phones as the phone is crushed and shoved in my pocket. Having buttons that can be used at any time partly negates one of the biggest benefits of the design.
If Motorola could make a clam shell with no external buttons, and make it weigh less than 70g and thinner than 10mm, then I would be in heaven!
