T-Mobile Touch Dual review from United Kingdom
"Not bad, but starting to look dated compared to rivals"
What things have gone wrong with the mobile phone?
The phone has just gone back to T-Mobile after it overheated and burned out whilst in my pocket. The battery drained quickly and the phone died, and now will not charge up or switch on.
General comments?
This is one of what I consider one of the second generation Windows Mobile devices from T-Mobile. My last phone was a MDA Vario, which is a competent phone but a little too chunky.
I bought this one because it was much thinner and I liked the flexibility offered from Windows Mobile devices, such as the ability to put Tom Tom and the like on it.
This has Windows Mobile 6 instead of the v5 of the Vario, and it looks better and is easier to use.
This also has 3G, and has a useful facility to allow you to plug it into a PC and share the Internet connection, so you effectively use it as a modem. This is brilliant for using at work for example, where you want to avoid using the companies Internet facility, or as a back up for a domestic Internet connection.
It looks a lot nicer than the Vario too, and is more resilient to scratches.
It's touted as an iPhone rival. It's more flexible and has more features than a 1st gen iPhone, but from what I have seen of the 2nd gen iPhone, I'd have to say that the iPhone appears to be a superior device.
Also it's not as easy to use as an iPhone, although they have made efforts to make it easier to use without the stylus, some things are still hard to do without it.
Call quality is quite good, but it's easier to invoke other functions accidentally with the touch screen while making calls.
The camera is rubbish. If you need a decent camera, look elsewhere.
Overall it's a flexible, nice looking device but its already beginning to look a bit dated compared to some newer rivals, including the new HTC Diamond, and of course, the new iPhone.
As such, if I was choosing to buy a new phone now, I would not buy one of these, but that's not to say it's a bad phone, because it isn't, but its not the easiest to use, or the prettiest, nor does it have a great camera, but it's a kind of jack of all trades phone that is very flexible.
