"The phones are nice, but not worth the headaches!!!"

What things have gone wrong with the mobile phone?

I bought two of these model CDM-8910 Audiovox phones from VZW in February 2005, and two months later, my wife's phone started having trouble charging. She would have to move the cord around and have it set a certain way for it to charge. Eventually it stopped charging completely and they said it wouldn't be covered under the manufacturers warranty, because they say she damaged it.

However, about a month after hers starts malfunctioning, mine starts doing the same. The phone never charges completely, no matter how long you leave it to charge, and as soon as you use it, the battery power drops to one bar. What happens is the charging mechanism in the phone breaks off, because it's made out of plastic, and each store I've gone to, I'm told it's a known problem. I've since then gotten new phones, but will be changing companies because of poor customer service.

General comments?

I really agree with this review, my phone does the same thing and I have had it for 2 weeks, but this was just something that I thought that I was doing wrong, but I don't have Verizon Wireless, I have Virgin Mobile, and thank god that I bought the extra coverage plan offered by them because I got my phone fixed for free. Sorry about yours.

The only thing I don't like about Virgin is that they don't have that much service down where I am at.

These phones are notorious for the charge port problem. I work for a company doing cell phone repair 8 hours a day. This was a bad design for the charge port because they only have 2 small tabs attached to the board to hold the port. We get lots of these 8910's in everyday with the same problem as yours.

I also had a problem with two of these phones when trying to charge it. Thankfully Verizon was able to work with me, and the phone was still under the year long factory warranty. They were able to sell me a LG charger that fit in the wider charger port at the bottom of the phone. This charger fits much better and so far has worked properly. So this is an option if you are having trouble with the pin charger. It costs a little bit, but it's definitely cheaper than having to buy a new phone all together.

I had exactly the same problem with my phone. Eventually it would not charge at all. I had to pay Verizon for a replacement phone (because they said I damaged the phone - which I did not). I used the wider charging port on the second phone, but eventually it developed the same charging problem as when using the smaller port. Of course Verizon pretends they know nothing about a known problem and instead try to blame me for something I have done. Verizon customer service is terrible.

I agree with all the comments above, this just happened to me also. The phone was working and charging properly, then when I went to put the charger plug in the port, there was no longer anything for it to fit into.

I brought it into Verizon, they told me to come back in a half hour, that it would be fixed, when I returned, they said they could not or would not fix it as damage had been done to the phone.. NO damage was done to the phone... the inside piece that the charger fits onto just seemed to disappear.. asking for help on what to do next was like talking to the wall. I went back later that night figuring I might get someone else that might have more knowledge... instead got the same speech.

Verizon service is more than awful. No damage was done to this phone, the port just stopped accepting the plug in.. as there was no longer anything to plug it into but an empty hole.

I just started having this problem with my phone maybe a week or two ago. My sister and I have this phone, and they were already replaced almost a year ago, cause they just totally died. Now my charger had to be held in a certain place and it's completly broke.

I'm going to Verizon tommorrow and if they don't do anything, I am going to flip. I am a 17 year old girl - my phone is the one thing I have with me at all times. If they don't repair it or give me another phone, I know I will flip. These phones need to be thrown off a cliff. A very very high one.

I got this phone about a year ago. It worked fine beside the pictures, they were very bad. Well anyways, my phone just stopped working a week ago. Both screens won't come on. The only thing that does work is the green light on the front of the phone. If anyone could help me to why this is acting this way? Thanks.

Hey guys, I have the Audiovox CDM8910 from Verizon, and when I first got my phone, it charged perfectly. But over the next few months, it started to get worse and worse. Now it's to the point where I can barely deal with the charging anymore, because I basically have to fiddle with the cord and phone for 5-15 mins trying to get it to stay in the phone to charge it. I am taking it to Verizon today, but have a bad feeling there gonna tell me that it's not covered by the warranty. But that's when they're gonna get a taste of "I'm gonna make your life a miserable living hell."

If anyone finds a fix, post it here because I need one!

Wow I am extremely surprised that I'm not the only person going through this. All I can get is the green light to come on. Ain't that something? We all need to be refunded!!!

I'm having the same problem with my phone, the green light is on, but that's all the response I get from the phone. Anyone else able to get it to do something?

Alright, just as I was looking back at my comment, My phone turned on. Randomly. I wasn't pressing anything, it just turned on! I don't rightly know why.

I have this phone, and just recently it started vibrating even when turned off. When the battery is in, the phone vibrates on or off. Also the water mark is still intact.

This is my 4th phone of this model. They suck, and they keep breaking. I need an answer for the vibrating problem please!

I too am having the same charging problems. I managed to take the phone apart after being rejected for service from Bell mobility stores and bell.ca (in Canada), even though I bought the 3 year extended warranty at the time of the purchase.

The charging port was simply detached from the circuit board, so I soldered it back on. That is not helping, this port being detached has left the connectors open and probably shorted something inside, leaving this phone dead and unusable from now on. I get the famous "green light flashing forever" side effect...

..This IS a KNOWN PROBLEM and it happens to almost every model of Audiovox 8910 out there. Audiovox should take action on this and recall the phone or offer a replacement for those affected by this DESIGN FLAW.

I would be interested in taking action myself, and I know that many of you out there would like to also.

Contact me if you would like to take action against Audiovox, and get a replacement for your unusable 8910 cell phone.

About 15 months ago, I signed up for a family plan and four phones of this model (they were the base model that Verizon would supply for "free" with this plan).

My eldest daughter puts the heaviest use on hers, and hers started to have this same charging problem a month or so ago (At least it lasted over a year, unlike what some peoples' experience here seems to have been).

It is totally defunct now - will not charge or turn on, same problem as described above with the charger port.

Our other three still work fine, for now.

I certainly won't buy this model phone again, knowing what I know now.

Wow! I feel very fortunate. My wife and I have each had an Audiovox 8910 phone for about 19 months now, without any problems. Mine even fell out of my pocket when I was riding the Borg Assimilator Roller Coaster at Carowinds. It hit the grass below the ride and rolled. Amazingly I retrieved it and it works fine!

While it's not my very favorite phone in the world, I must say that I have had no problems with it and it performs as it is supposed to. And I have never had any reception or charging problems.

I got mine through Alltel. I wonder if Audiovox sold a "better" version to Alltel than they did to Verizon?
