"Motorola? Never again"

What things have gone wrong with the mobile phone?

I bought this directly from Cingular as an upgrade phone for a Christmas present for myself in 2005. It worked for several months, then it would turn off in midcall and take a long time to come back on. Many times, I would find it dead when I pick it up. It is still under warranty from Cingular; however when I try to return it, they offer a refurbished silver replacement and my phone is like new and black.

The problems I’ve experienced can be resolved by folding a small square post it not – not the regular size and jamming it in the battery case. I’m hobbling along on it until some non-Motorola thing catches my fancy. I would never buy another Motorola phone. They should have tested it better and worked with their vendors to offer better replacement than a beat up refurbished phone of a different color. Manufacturers need to be accountable for their products. All I can do is never buying from this manufacturer again.

The phone book sucks too, but everyone knows that.

I understand that in addition to the battery connection, the charging/USB port on the side is extremely likely to fail, so I am VERY careful how I plug it in.

General comments?

It sounds like you should be mad at Cingular not Motorola. I love my Razr.

I agree that the Razor is not the best phone out there, I too bought mine as an upgrade and after the first month or so, the speaker for the speaker phone stopped working.

After returning the phone, I received a new one and it worked fine until the the main speaker (non-speaker phone) stopped working as well as a bad connection on the microphone. So again I returned my phone and got yet my third Razor.

Now with my current phone, the USB/charger connection works when it wants to. And the battery is dying (20 min talk time from being unplugged from the charger) and only 12 hours before the battery dies (on standby). Also I recently got a bluetooth headset and the bluetooth connection breaks up more than it works. Needless to say I'm in the market for a new phone. Long live Nokia.

I love my razr except for the dust that builds up behind the screen, and the vendors say nothing can be done about it, which is rubbish; they are just too lazy to do anything about it.

Can someone help me turn off the speaker phone option on my Razor??? It's very sleek & all, but I can't figure out how to shut it off.

Thanks!

K.

I have to admit that I hate the RAZR. They are sleek and all, but first off, they're HUGE! When you open the thing, it feels like it's about a foot long. Also, it feels uncomfortable to me when I try to use it. The screen is poor, the camera and speaker phone are poor, and I was hugely disappointed.

If you want a really great phone, buy a Samsung.

My wife and I both owned RAZRs, and we found the overall quality to between poor and fair.

Pros: I loved the size and the contemporary look. Also, a plus for the variety of ring tones. I accidentally washed the phone through a full washing cycle. It worked perfectly once it dried out.

Cons: Poor picture quality. The keys on the phone are of poor quality. We had to send both phones in for new ones because the key boards stopped working. My wife got a new phone and it happened again after two months of usage. My friend has one and the hinge broke after dropping it. I noticed on mine the hinge is of poor quality.

Style: A-, User friendliness B, Sturdiness C,

Overall rating: B-

Motorola's older style phones were of much better quality: Startec and Passport.

Do not buy unless you get a great deal.

I love my RAZR V3. As for some of the minor issues, you can do the repair yourself.

With reference to the dust behind the screen; you can buy a replacement screen from the motoscreen for three dollars. The screen cover is basically just a sticker. It peels off and you replace it. Just make sure you clean the dust off the main screen first.

You can also buy new hinges at the motostore for about three dollars, also very easy to replace. Good luck!!!

I've owned my Razr for almost 2 years and it performs great. The reception is better than the old Nokia I upgraded from. I text 500 messages every month and have not worn out the keypad - it still functions as perfectly as when the phone was new.

The only problem is the original battery does not hold a charge like when it was new. I'm getting an 800 mAh replacement for $22 that should solve the problem. Any comments??

I've had RAZRs ever since they hit the market, and here's a couple of hints.

Don't drop it!

Don't use a hammer to push the buttons!

And finally don't expect great camera style pictures from a mobile, unless you're prepared to pay through the nose.

If you can accept the simple fact that it's a sophisticated piece of hardware, you'll never go back.

Fingers should slide across the pad pressing the keys gently. It's not a Nokia you know :-)

If by chance you should be so unfortunate as to drop it, keep an eye on the battery connections, as they are responsible for 90% dropouts of all kinds.

And after all this has been said... Even though you have violated a lovely toy, they still offer perfect support, and doesn't whine about you throwing you phone around, or taking a mallet to the keys, no they most likely exchange it with a smile.

As you can tell, I love my Moto, and my new RAZR V3x is just a lovely piece of equipment. This will be the SECOND Moto phone as I NEVER had any troubles with the first one, which my wife is taking good care of.

To disable speaker on RAZR - I simply removed the battery and reinstalled. Hope this will help.

I'm buying a phone now and I was planning to buy a RAZR, but is it a good choice? It comes free with the plan I chose.

Please take note that there is a limited lifespan for rechargeable batteries. Rechargeable batteries for cordless phones are around 2 years. For cellphones, less than that. If by any chance you take very good care of your phones, and they have been with you for almost 2 years and still going, it is highly recommended that you buy a brand new battery for it. And then just use the original battery as backup while traveling.

Does anybody know how to actually utilize the speakerphone setting on the Razr? Or increase the speaker volume? I pressed the smaller button on the left hand side, but just got a menu for voice records. I can't find the speakerphone option anywhere on my phone.

If your keyboard doesn't work, you can download some "hack programs" and make it fine. You even can "hack' that RAZR so it cannot just make photos, but make videos too, and not just 10 seconds. You can "hack" and make it not 5Mb storage; you can have 9Mb. You just need a cable and the Internet... I think it's a great phone.
