Reliable phone so far. However, the phone has annoying habit of indicating a "full battery" and then going flat shortly after.
I bought this phone on the strength of some really, positive magazine reviews. T3 (Australia) ranked it ahead of other phones in a comparison review. One of the computer mags also gave it a "best buy" status.
There is no denying that this is a sexy and multi-talented phone with a few "wow" features.
The exterior is of a super slim, slide variety and looks fantastic in piano black.
The screen is one of the most delicious I have seen, and contains a fantastic screensaver that changes depending on the time of day. As I live in Australia, the screensaver contains an image of the Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge. During the day, birds fly accross the blue sky. At dusk, the sky dims and the lights come on. You can even see flying comets in the sky.
Another "wow" feature is when entering telephone numbers, a pen "writes" each number as they are typed.
The camera packs a huge 3 megapixels, in built flash AND even an autofocus sensor. The lens and sesensor are protected by the sliding mechanism (far better than having them on the back of the camera). Photos look fantastic, although some of the shots I have taken are out of focus despite the auto focus sensor.
The fact that the "camera" button on the side does not automatically take a photo is a little annoying. Depressing it simply brings up a "photo" menu and you then have to select an additional menu before you can take a photo!
Menus are otherwise very slick, and though it takes a little time to get used to, works reasonably well. Except the fact that pushing the centre button launches the browser. This is often pushed unintentionally and results in an increased bill! I often launch the browser by accident when I really wanted to see my contact list.
Putting the camera into vibrate, silent mode is a much easier process than my previous phone. Simply hold down the # key and it changes from active to silent, vibrate alert mode.
Overall, I have been very pleased with the phone and would RECOMMEND it highly. However, I am VERY ANNOYED at the fact that the battery seems to drain very quickly with little warning. I have been caught out a few times now when the battery indicated a "full charge" in the morning, but it quickly drained during the day (even with minimal calls). I don't know if this is a fault, or because of the slim battery. However, I would definately NOT recommend this phone to anyone who works in an "emergency" type job for this reason (unless my phone was not typical of others).
I am the original reviewer and forgot to mention another point that annoys a little about the phone. That is, I have found that it is VERY difficult to take out the battery and the SIM card. Therefore it is not a phone I would recommend if you wish to regularly change the sim card between phones.
Also, the ring tone is hard to hear (even when set to high) and the lovely screen is surprisingly hard to look at in bright light.
The phone is easy to scratch, although I bought a plastic cover to try to protect it.
Then again, I have found that the above gripes are common to MOST new phones on the market these days. However, I thought it was still worth mentioning.
On the positive side, one thing that I failed to mention was how good the MP3 player of the phone is. Though the phone is limited in the number of MP3 (and other files) you can store on the phone, you can apparently buy a micro SD type card to store even more. Music sounds great on the supplied headphones as well as the built in speaker.
You can also apparently view photos on TV through supplied cables. Handy if there is no PC near by.
As you can see, overall I am still wrapped in this phone or I wouldn't be spending so much time reviewing it. It's just a shame that the flaws take the shine off an otherwise brilliant phone. Perhaps the next Samsung will address some of these flaws to make it an AWESOME buy.
