"Very simple, easy to use, loong standby-time"

What things have gone wrong with the mobile phone?

Nothing has gone wrong with this phone.

General comments?

If you are in for a last generation, hi tech camera and other gadgets included phone, read no more, this review is not for you.

If you need a simple phone you can call with and send SMS messages and you like to have 400 hours (!) stand-by time, you should seriously consider this tiny Nokia 1100.

SMS: you can send SMS messages of 459 characters. Writing the messages is made easier with T9 (or sometimes harder). What I like most here, is that it stores the outgoing messages too, so you can review them later.

Calling: the voice quality and the reception is quite good for a phone of this price, but not as good as my previous phone (Nokia 3210), as you can slightly hear the sound of reception (some buzzing in the background).

Reminder and wake-up alarm: it has a reminder too (which I use a lot) because I keep forgetting things. Am I getting old? :) The wake-up alarm is quite nice, you can specify even on which days it should wake you up (my watch rings Saturdays and Sundays too, now that is annoying).

It only has monophonic ringtones, but it also has a ringtone editor, so you can type in your favorite ringtone (lots of them on the internet). You can also get ringtones from friends (by SMS).

It only has 2 games (Snake II and Space Impact +), but as I mainly play games on my PC, this is not a problem.

It has some nice extras too: screen saver and a lamp. Yes, you read right: a lamp. That is a small LED at the top of the phone and it's really useful when you are looking for your keys in the dark.

A basic phone for realistic people.

Even if it's not so popular because of its simple technology (no camera, no color screen, monophonics), it's a great phone. It has got the classic, well thought-out Nokia software, which makes it very easy to use, with a very logical menu.

They have put in it a powerful battery (used in many performant multi-media phones too) which gives it that outstanding stand-by and talking time. The little lamp was also a good idea, it's really useful, but when you work fast with your phone, you have to be careful not to push too many times the C button when exiting the menu, because you might accidentally turn on the light.

I don't know much about it's other versions, the 1101 and the 1108, but I know that one of them has got polyphonic sounds too.
